Amber Carter

Amber is a fourth year PhD student in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses  on ecosystem change and social ecological dynamics in tropical coastal ecosystems and small-scale fishing communities. Her work is centered in southwest Madagascar with traditional Vezo fishing communities in the Velondriake Locally Managed Marine Area. She combines social, ecological and climate data to explore issues around food security, adaptation, resilience and marine conservation. Amber was named a 2022 Explorer with the Scientific Exploration Society. She holds an MSc in Marine Systems and Policies from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Environmental Science from Queen Mary University of London and University of Miami.
