Research Overview

The OBT Lab and its collaborators are engaged in research about the complex interactions between humans and their environment. Our work is founded on respect for diverse ways of knowing the world and on close collaborations with local, Indigenous and descendant communities, particularly on Madagascar and in the Western Indian Ocean. We integrate theories, methods and datasets from many fields, including anthropology, ecology, climate science and ethnohistory. Our ultimate aim is to draw from the richness of human experience, past and present, to inform more equitable, just and sustainable practices in the future.
