Leanne Phelps, Ph.D.

Leanne is a postdoctoral fellow funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and hosted by the University of Edinburgh, Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, Columbia Climate School, and Kew Madagascar Conservation Centre. Her current project focuses on reconstructing the Holocene savannas of Madagascar, and understanding the associated implications of long-term disturbance dynamics and modern human land use. Leanne earned her PhD in Geosciences and Environment from the University of Lausanne (Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics), and her MSc in social science from the University College London (Department of Anthropology). Her main research interest is understanding human-environment dynamics at multiple spatial and temporal scales, with the goal of supporting sustainable land stewardship and conservation.
